CGR Group x EVBox

Rapid charging at CGR cinemas

To make life easier for customers, and to improve its offering, CGR Group installed EVBox rapid-charging stations at its Villenave d'Ornon cinema in France.

CGR cinemas is making history by being the first to electrify its car park

In December 2019, BE CABLE had Bouygues Energies & Services install two EVBox Troniq rapid chargers in the parking lot of the CGR cinema in Villenave-d'Ornon, thus making the CGR group the first cinema in France to be equipped with rapid chargers for electric vehicles in its own parking lot. Responding to a strong need, the charging stations have exceeded the 2 tonnes of CO2 saved in mid-May, i.e. after only five months of use! Discover what happened behind the scenes of this beautiful partnership below.

With 73 establishments throughout France, the independent family group CGR is a pioneer in its sector. It’s constantly innovating in terms of sound, image, and the indoor experience, such as the creation of premium ICE theatres exported around the world. CGR's originality also relates to all the services it offers to its customers at the cinema and to its CSR commitment. Robert Laborie, CGR Group Development Director explained:

"With more and more electric vehicles on the road, installing charging stations in cinemas is now becoming a part of history. This allows us to offer our customers an additional service. With the EVBox Troniq 50 fast chargers, spectators can refuel their battery while quietly watching a movie."

Rapid chargers for moviegoers and more

The rapid chargers installed in the CGR car park are strategically located. They are near a dozen restaurants, sports halls, and a large shopping centre while being located five minutes from the Bordeaux ring road. Holidaymakers traveling through France in an electric vehicle will stop to recharge in one of the four fast spaces and take the opportunity to have lunch, go to the nearby shops or to the cinema. BE CABLE chose EVBox Troniq 50 kW DC fast chargers for this reason. With fast charging, an electric vehicle driver can refuel their batteries while watching a movie at the CGR cinema in just under two hours, or they can regain 300 km of range in one hour while having lunch, for example.

EVBox rapid chargers, a local and technical choice

Yves Tricaud is very familiar with the EVBox Bordeaux site, where Research and Development (R&D) and the production of EVBox rapid and ultra-rapid chargers are concentrated. He is proud to have used innovative French and even local technology from the Gironde region, like BE CABLE. The entrepreneur also chose EVBox for technical reasons.

“EVBox rapid chargers correspond to our vision of charging: they are universal and intuitive. They are compatible with all electric vehicles thanks to its multiple connectors and charging is open to everyone. All you need is a top-up card or a credit card to top up. Finally, the equipment is reliable and at the cutting edge of technology. It's good to have a company in France that develops innovative products, technology that goes forward and can help us reduce our impact on the environment."

In this project, Bouygues Energies & Services provides terminal services (installation, maintenance, remote supervision) and user services (payment management, 24/7 hotline, customer area for managing consumption and invoices).

BE CABLE, a 360 degree approach

Beyond the importance of purchasing locally produced technology, BE CABLE donates €1 to the Surfrider Foundation Europe for each recharge made with one of the two EVBox Troniq 50 chargers from the CGR of Villenave-d'Ornon.

"We have set up a partnership with Surfrider Foundation Europe, because this NGO has been campaigning for more than 30 years for the protection of the oceans, in order to limit plastic waste which slows down the production of oxygen by microplankton."

The NGO Surfrider Foundation Europe, headquartered in Biarritz, is raising public awareness of the urgency of preserving the ocean, which regulates the climate and generates more than half of our planet's oxygen.

Convinced that the energy transition in transport involves electric mobility, BE CABLE has taken advantage of the confinement to finalise its new offer of photovoltaic panels to supply charging stations.

"The idea is to decentralise electricity to offer a complete solution with a recharging infrastructure powered by greener and more autonomous energy."
