If you’re a resident in Ireland and looking to get an EV charging station at home, you could be eligible for a big discount.

NOTE: From the 1st January 2024 the grant will be lowered to a max claim of €300. All applications received before this date will not be affected.

​Am I eligible for this grant?

The grant is for all customers residing in Ireland, holding evidence of ownership, lease, or those who are the primary user of an eligible EV. The EV must be parked on an off-street parking location associated with the home and the charger must be connected back to the fuse board of the home of the applicant. To receive the grant, you must ensure that you use a Safe Electric Registered Electrical Contractor.

Should I survey my house first?

It's advisable to get an electrical survey of your home done before deciding on the EV and home charging station. For instance, you would need to determine the necessary kilowatt (kW) requirements. A certified electrician can assess your home wiring and check safety standards.

Which home charging stations are acceptable?

A list of approved smart charging stations is available through the online application form. EVBox Livo is registered as well.

What is the application process?

  1. Complete the online application which you will need your Metre Point Reference Number and home's Eircode.
  2. After approval, you'll get an email with a Letter of Offer, Terms, a Payment Request Form link, and another email with an Installation Details form for your electrician.
  3. Upon receiving your Letter of Offer, you have 6 months to install your charging station.
  4. After installation, your electrician completes the Installation Details form, and you complete the Payment Request Form.
  5. Your electrician gives you Certificate Number 3 copy for review.
  6. Submit Payment Request Form from the Letter of Offer email with supporting documents.

What to do when there are (no) EV chargers installed in my car park?​

If there is no existing EV charging network in your car park, the company responsible for managing the complex will need to apply to SEAI for the apartment grant.

If an EV charging network is already present in your apartment building, contact your management company to request permission to join the local network. They will instruct you about what equipment and supplier must be used and how to set up an account to pay for the use of the system. When you have completed this step, apply for the home charger grant.​

How much can I claim?

The proposed percentage of grant aid will vary by applicant type. The grant provides a maximum of €600 per charging port, up to €5,000 per dwelling unit and a maximum of €100,000 for an entire project.

  • The local authority or approved housing body can claim 90% of the eligible costs.
  • Owners' management company can claim 80% of the eligible costs​.
  • Management companies of build-to-rent developments can claim 60% of the eligible costs.
