OneChargerOneTree

In 2019, we pledged to plant one tree for every new charging port delivered. Thanks to our customers and partners, we planted over 220,000 trees during this initiative.

A breath of fresh air

To celebrate our 2019 milestone of delivering over 100,000 charging ports across the globe, we teamed up with the global reforestation charity, One Tree Planted.

Over a three-year period, we gave back to our planet by planting one tree for every new EVBox charging point delivered. Thanks to the help of our customers and partners, we planted over 220,000 trees to help clean the air and absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere. We even sent some passionate EVBoxers to Portugal to help us reach this target.

We also donated trees for every REVOLUTION Conference ticket sold during the Christmas period in 2020 and for everyone who participated in FullyCharged's Clean Energy & EV survey.

Tackling the climate crisis one tree at a time

Trees help to clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80 percent of the world's terrestrial biodiversity. They also provide jobs for over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25 percent of all medicines.

One Tree Planted is a non-profit environmental charity on a mission of global reforestation. Partnering with them has allowed us to give back to the environment, create a healthier climate, protect biodiversity, and help reforestation around the world—all by planting trees! Here's more about the projects were involved in during this initiative:

Ghana

This project restored over 350 hectares of biologically significant land in the Western Region of Ghana. Planting 35,000 trees around this area provided extra habitat for wildlife and numerous benefits for the forests, river banks, and surrounding communities.

Uganda

Few to no farmers in Paibona in Uganda had trees on their land, lacking access to key resources like seedlings. To fill this gap, 115,000 fruit-bearing, economically beneficial tree species were planted. This has empowered the community, alleviating poverty, increasing soil health, and reducing the destruction of natural habitats.

New Brunswick

The Acadian Forest in Canada is recognised as 'critically endangered,' the highest risk category for extinction. By planting 100,000 native forest species, the site will regenerate quicker and healthier than it would be possible if left alone. This will help to foster greater biodiversity and protect wildlife.

Orca project

Due to the loss of habitat and increasing pollution, salmon numbers in the Pacific Ocean are diminishing. As orcas rely on salmon for nearly 80 percent of their diet, they too are impacted. One Tree Planted is planting trees along rivers and streams of the Pacific Northwest to reduce pollution and improve the health and quantity of salmon thereby increasing food accessibility for the Orcas.

Indonesia

In 2015, rampant fires burned and destroyed more than 30,000 hectares of forest in the Kalimantan region in Borneo. One Tree Planted is working to restore areas affected by these fires, as well as those threatened by the palm oil industry and illegal mining operations.

India

Due to the relentless expansion into mangrove forest areas, as well as near-constant cyclones and storms caused by climate change, the Indian Sunderbans has suffered huge losses of forest cover. One Tree Planted is working to restore the mangrove forests which are vital for Indian coastal communities and local and global food security.

The Philippines

The impact of deforestation has been felt throughout the Philippines, causing food shortages, poor water quality, landslides, and the destruction of wildlife habitat. One Tree Planted is working to replant forest on the island of Mindanao in the protected landscape of Mt. Matutum.

Vietnam

Over-exploitation of the land in Vietnam has endangered many native species of plants, animals and has increased the impact of natural disasters. One Tree Planted is planting trees here to conserve threatened species, regulate climate, provide economic stability for local villagers, and protect watershed areas that serve the community.

Ecuador

This project focuses on the intersection between women's empowerment, indigenous rights, and ecological restoration in Ecuador. One Tree Planted is working with an Indigenous Women's association which aims to employ Sapara women to plant 150,000 trees in nine Sapara communities the Amazonian Rainforest.

Romania

Climate change and shifts in agricultural practices have left large swathes of Romania's lowlands abandoned leading to soil erosion and degradation of the landscape. One Tree Planted is working to convert this land into healthy forests and is raising awareness about the importance of proper land management to ensure these forests are well maintained.

Scotland

Talla and Gameshope in Scotland is an inherently infertile region devastated by deforestation centuries ago. One Tree Planted is working to restore the native woodlands which will provide valuable habitat for plants, and animals. The new woods will also have a much greater capacity to sequester and store carbon, therefore helping to mitigate climate change.

British Columbia, Canada

Forests cover two-thirds of British Columbia—an area of almost 60 million hectares. In summer, 2017, the region experienced its worst wildfire in history, burning over 1.2 million hectares. One Tree Planted is working to restore the affected areas.

evbox fundraiser

Australian bushfire relief

To help Australia recover from the devastating bushfires that ravaged the country at the beginning of 2020, we ran an internal fundraiser. Thanks to generous donations from our employees, we raised over €2500. EVBox Group then matched that amount and distributed it equally between St Vincent de Paul Society, Wildlife Victoria, and One Tree Planted to help the people, animals, and nature recover from the disaster.
